The first NySMAC meeting was
held in Ny-Ålesund 27 July 1994. Since then the committee has convened
twice a year. During this period 10 Ny-Ålesund seminars have been
organised.
1st Ny-Ålesund seminar, Potsdam, Germany 4-5 May 1995
The first seminar was a general seminar covering all
current research.
53 participants. 37 oral presentations.
2nd Ny-Ålesund seminar, Cambridge, England 28-29
February 1996
The second seminar was devoted
to ecosystem studies in the Ny-Ålesund area.
60 participants. 23 oral presentations.
3rd Ny-Ålesund seminar, Kjeller, Norway
9-11 April 1997
The subject of the third seminar was atmospheric
research in Ny-Ålesund.
60 participants. 34 oral presentations and 16 poster presentations.
4th Ny-Ålesund seminar, Ravello, Italy 5-6 March 1998
The fourth covered the arctic and global change -
multidisciplinary approach and international efforts at Ny-Ålesund,
Svalbard.
81 participants. 29 oral presentations and 15 poster presentations.
5th Ny-Ålesund seminar, Tokyo, Japan 23-25 February
2000
The fifth seminar was the second
general seminar covering all current research.
152 participants. 66 oral presentations and 61 poster presentations.
6th
Ny-Ålesund seminar, Tromsø, Norway 8-10 October 2002
The sixth seminar was devoted to the changing physical environment in
Ny-Ålesund.
60 participants. 60 paper and poster presentations.
7th
Ny-Ålesund seminar, Tokyo, Japan 22-24 February 2005
The seventh seminar was arranged in Tokyo hosted by the National
Institute of Polar Research (NIPR).
8th
Ny-Ålesund seminar, Cambridge, UK 16-17 October 2007
The eigth seminar, "Ny-Ålesund and IPY", was hosted by
NERC/British Antarctiv Survey.
